After the massive commercial success of their previous album,\u00a0<em>Smash<\/em>\u00a0(1994), the band entered the studio in the middle of 1996 to record a new album. The title combines\u00a0Pig Latin\u00a0(\u00ab\u00a0Ixnay\u00a0\u00bb is the version of the word \u00ab\u00a0nix\u00a0\u00bb, familiar in 1940s Hollywood movies) and Spanish (\u00ab\u00a0hombre\u00a0\u00bb, \u00ab\u00a0man\u00a0\u00bb) to convey the message \u00ab\u00a0fuck\u00a0The Man\u00a0\u00bb, as in \u00ab\u00a0fuck authority\u00a0\u00bb.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>Ixnay on the Hombre<\/em>\u00a0was a moderate commercial success upon its release, debuting at number nine on the\u00a0US\u00a0<em>Billboard<\/em>\u00a0200, and was well received by both critics and fans.
