The album sold more than 2\u00a0million copies in the US.\u00a0Its lead single, \u00ab\u00a0Girlfriend\u00a0\u00bb, became Lavigne&rsquo;s first number-one single on the U.S.\u00a0<em>Billboard<\/em>\u00a0Hot 100 and one of the decade&rsquo;s biggest singles.\u00a0The single also peaked at number one in Australia, Canada, and Japan, and reached number two in the UK and France. As well as English, \u00ab\u00a0Girlfriend\u00a0\u00bb was recorded in Spanish, French, Italian,\u00a0Portuguese, German, Japanese, and\u00a0Mandarin. The\u00a0International Federation of the Phonographic Industry\u00a0ranked \u00ab\u00a0Girlfriend\u00a0\u00bb as the most-downloaded track worldwide in 2007, selling 7.3\u00a0million copies, including the versions recorded in eight different languages.\u00a0\u00ab\u00a0When You&rsquo;re Gone\u00a0\u00bb, the album&rsquo;s second single, reached the top five in Australia and the United Kingdom, the top ten in Canada, and the top forty in the US. \u00ab\u00a0Hot\u00a0\u00bb was the third single and charted only at number 95 in the US, although it reached the top 10 in Canada and the top 20 in Australia.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Lavigne won two\u00a0World Music Awards\u00a0in 2007, for &lsquo;World&rsquo;s Bestselling Canadian Artist&rsquo; and &lsquo;World&rsquo;s Best Pop\/Rock Female Artist&rsquo;. She won her first two\u00a0MTV Europe Music Awards, received a\u00a0Teen Choice Award\u00a0for &lsquo;Best Summer Single&rsquo;, and was nominated for five Juno Awards.\u00a0In December 2007, Lavigne was ranked number eight in\u00a0<em>Forbes<\/em>\u00a0magazine&rsquo;s list of &lsquo;Top 20 Earners Under 25&rsquo;, with annual earnings of $12\u00a0million.\u00a0In March 2008, Lavigne undertook a world tour,\u00a0The Best Damn World Tour, and appeared on the cover of\u00a0<em>Maxim<\/em>\u00a0for the second time.\u00a0In mid-August, Malaysia&rsquo;s Islamic opposition party, the\u00a0Pan-Malaysian Islamic Party, attempted to ban Lavigne&rsquo;s tour show in\u00a0Kuala Lumpur, judging her stage moves \u00ab\u00a0too sexy\u00a0\u00bb.
