They had trouble focusing in London and decided to relocate to Liverpool, where they recorded some of the songs on\u00a0<em>Parachutes<\/em>. Once there, vocalist Chris Martin said that they became obsessed with recording. \u00ab\u00a0In My Place\u00a0\u00bb was the first song recorded for the album. The band released it as the album&rsquo;s lead single because it was the track that made them want to record a second album, following a \u00ab\u00a0strange period of not really knowing what we were doing\u00a0\u00bb three months after the success of\u00a0<em>Parachutes<\/em>. According to Martin \u00ab\u00a0one thing kept us going: recording &lsquo;In My Place&rsquo;. Then other songs started coming.\u00a0\u00bb<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The band wrote more than 20 songs for the album. Some of their new material, including \u00ab\u00a0In My Place\u00a0\u00bb and \u00ab\u00a0Animals\u00a0\u00bb, was played live while the band were still touring\u00a0<em>Parachutes<\/em>.\u00a0The album&rsquo;s title was revealed through a post on the band&rsquo;s official website.\u00a0The album was released in August 2002 and spawned several popular singles, including \u00ab\u00a0In My Place\u00a0\u00bb, \u00ab\u00a0Clocks\u00a0\u00bb, and the ballad \u00ab\u00a0The Scientist\u00a0\u00bb. The latter was inspired by\u00a0George Harrison&rsquo;s \u00ab\u00a0All Things Must Pass\u00a0\u00bb, which was released in 1970.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Coldplay - In My Place (Official 4K Video)\" width=\"500\" height=\"281\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/gnIZ7RMuLpU?list=OLAK5uy_k2FivlV4BFfc5fGkDXmmt_gTGAqhN00YE\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Coldplay toured from 19 June 2002 to 8 September 2003 for the\u00a0A Rush of Blood to the Head Tour. They visited five continents, including co-headlining festival dates at\u00a0Glastonbury Festival,\u00a0V2003\u00a0and\u00a0Rock Werchter. Many concerts showcased elaborate lighting and individualised screens reminiscent of U2&rsquo;s\u00a0Elevation Tour\u00a0and\u00a0Nine Inch Nails&rsquo;\u00a0Fragility Tour.\u00a0During the extended tour, Coldplay recorded a live DVD and CD,\u00a0<em>Live 2003<\/em>, at Sydney&rsquo;s\u00a0Hordern Pavilion.\u00a0At the 2003\u00a0Brit Awards\u00a0held at\u00a0Earls Court, London, Coldplay received awards for Best British Group, and Best British Album.
