Raised in\u00a0Pantymwyn, he began playing guitar from an early age, being influenced by acts such as\u00a0The Stone Roses,\u00a0My Bloody Valentine\u00a0and\u00a0U2. He is noted for sparse and delicate arrangements, using the\u00a0slide bar\u00a0and\u00a0delay pedal\u00a0with a stylistic chiming and ringing timbre that led to comparisons with\u00a0the Edge.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Buckland has a degree in\u00a0mathematics\u00a0and\u00a0astronomy\u00a0at\u00a0University College London, where he formed Coldplay with\u00a0Chris Martin,\u00a0Guy Berryman\u00a0and\u00a0Will Champion. The group signed with\u00a0Parlophone\u00a0in 1999, finding global fame through the release of\u00a0<em>Parachutes<\/em>\u00a0(2000) and subsequent records. He won seven\u00a0Grammy Awards\u00a0and nine\u00a0Brit Awards\u00a0as part of Coldplay.
